A training ground for life – ‘How exercise training can help us in everyday life’

Train for Life

Developing a regular training pattern in the gym or with any sport has its challenges. The challenges we face within our training are like teachers (the kind that are cruel to be kind). They teach us discipline to build resilience,  to overcome the struggles and to grow.

Throughout my time in regular fitness training, since I was young, I have always found these lessons I have learnt and the development gained has helped me tremendously in life to overcome any challenges that life brings. Without this as a basis I think I would have found these far more difficult.

Without the discipline built in the gym I may likely not have learnt to do the same in other areas of life, it is certain that it has helped in many ways. Regular Training in whichever form you choose also builds your self-confidence and self-belief, I have seen people’s confidence transform from exercising regularly and it also happened to me. Self-confidence and self-belief are two things that without which we will struggle very much in many areas of life. Regular training is in no way a magic pill for this because there are many elements to it, but it certainly helps a lot.

The Energy and Focus you also gain from your training will also help in all other areas of life, whether you are working or studying , you will be able to think much clearer and feel much better due to the increase in energy and concentration. As a result you will be able to get far more done in a shorter space of time, who wouldn’t want this?:)

Because exercise training is initially quiet difficult and to form a regular training pattern takes discipline this builds a strength of mind, we have to learn to persist and be disciplined with our training to reach the results we want to achieve. Persistence is important in training to achieve our goals, without it we would not get there or keep going at all. This is the same with any goal in life, if we do not have persistence we will not get there. The good thing is persistence can be built and exercise training is the perfect training ground to do this.

We always start off small and build up, therefore we learn to adapt and progress  from there you get stronger and stronger. You can apply this principle to any goal and it will then develop your persistence muscle because this way you have broken your large goal down and you then build up from there. Each step has a reward and self belief gets stronger, you will keep going to get to the next step (as long as you want it enough) and so build persistence from within. From there you can then use this strength when you need to, for any goal or task that requires it. You will always keep going because in training you have to.

‘As you train your body, you train your mind and your mind is the master your life.’ ~ M.L.Adams

Your Health

Feel Healthy

It is your health that is your real true beauty in life

So easily given and then more easily taken, it is the real true gift

Value it with your life, for it depends on it so

There are many a people who aren’t even fortunate enough to know

Always remember the real true gift,

It is right there within you; don’t wait for it to fly by

Many a people have done so and then they realise

That their real true gift was right before their eyes

Many a true scholar have told us these words before

It is now time we listen, for its more important than before

Our world is filled with guises that hide us from this gift

The only way to truly know is from how you feel inside

So stand up for your life and be true to yourself

Don’t hide from your health it is your real gift of wealth

For once you really have it, then you will truly know

That the real gift of life

Is right there before you,

If you  only choose to let it be so

Staying Inspired

We can all hit low points in training and in life, so it’s important that we stay inspired and have things that can help re-inspire us when in need.

There are several key things that can help;

  1. Having a positive peer group, surrounding yourself with positive people who lift you up and encourage you when in need is essential when needing that necessary inspiration. Even if that means joining classes or groups, find a way to meet like minded people.
  2. Setting goals, small ones are as important, as well as larger ones. The bigger goals give us something to aim for, whilst the smaller ones allow us to see our progress along the way.
  3. Change with change, when things become stagnant and uninspiring it can be time to create a change or find a new way. There are many opportunities in life, we just have to step out to find them. If we stay in same lane too long, we may just miss them. Don’t be afraid to diversify, you never know if something new will work for you unless you try.

I hope you find these few tips helpful if you have been struggling with staying inspired in your training or with life in general.

Remember there is always a way, look for it and you will find it. 🙏💛

Disadvantage or Advantage

There are many aspects of our life that may first appear as a disadvantage, yet within every disadvantage can come an advantage.

How we find it often is a part of the journey and how we can turn it in to a success. A disadvantage may for example cause us to have to try a different way or learn a new skill.

An injury is a perfect example of this where we can learn ways to strengthen a previous weakness and then become stronger overall.

It’s also the same with an illness, however tough it can be, there are many lessons and advantages we can learn along the way. Such as being able to have compassion and understanding for those in similar positions and then be able to help them through similar struggles.

Nothing is ever a disadvantage nor advantage, it is simply what we make of it and how we choose to view and use that particular situation.

I have a Monday challenge for you :).. take any situation you have been finding difficult and aim to see the higher purpose of how you can use this to your advantage in the long term.

When you look for it, you will find it 🙏💛

Cultivating Virtue

Through discipline in practice we cultivate inner virtues, attaining the higher benefits of long sustained practice such as inner strength and peace of mind.

It’s only through daily persistent efforts of our training and meditation that we can attain these benefits, yet once attained they become a part of you as a person and continue to endure.

The particular practice you do does not matter so much, it is more that it fits with you and your purpose, and this may change over time. Having strong values at your core and the ability to persist on your path will allow you to develop these indestructible skills that enable you to have a better way of life. Enabling you to live in a that is more peaceful and filled with insight and onward growth.

Enjoy the journey 🙏💛

Daily Practice

What we do daily is what really makes a difference, its the small consistent steps that add to whole well-being; spiritually, mentally and physically

The following video of the yoga practice Sun Salutation is one of my daily practices. Its also one that I recommend to many because of its significant meaning of giving gratitude for that which we can not live without, and its ability to stretch out the whole body as a great way to start the day.

Please give it a try if you feel able to 🙏

Daily Sun Salutation

Please also share your daily practices and how they help you. I would love to hear from you.

Moment by Moment

Taking each day moment by moment not only helps you to be more present, it also helps you achieve your goals.

Every thing we achieve is done step by step.

Whether it be weight loss, body building or any other goal, and most of all the journey is where the joy is.

Going moment by moment, we also see many opportunies and find ways we may not otherwise see, by going with what is.

Moment by moment,

Enjoying life as it is

Embrace opportunities 💕

The True meaning of Yoga

Yoga has become a fashion within health clubs nowadays but what exactly is the true purpose and meaning of yoga?

‘Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.’

~ The Bhagavad Gita

The true meaning of yoga is much more than physical image or even health, yet to describe it sounds much simpler. Most profound truths are paradoxical in this way.

The true meaning of yoga is literally ‘to yoke’ or ‘to connect’. At first this is with our breath throughout the whole practice within all asanas (postures) and relaxation/meditation.

The whole practice then becomes a form of meditation where we seek to unite with the breath and ultimately to our higher self/god, through a sequence of postures.

The way yoga has become misrepresented is unfortunate yet there are also some very good teachers out there too who bring forth its true meaning.

Always do your own research too and do your best to stay connected with your highest 🙏💗

Overcoming Injuries

With intense and consistent training many of us can incur injury or two at some point.

This can happen for a variety of reasons, overtraining being one of the main causes as well as poor techniques, muscle imbalance or weakness in certain areas.

This post will look at how do we overcome them and prevention as part of this also.

There is no simple one way to overcome an injury, it often takes a multifaceted approach.

This is however an overall approach I have found most effective.

  1. Find the cause. Discovering the cause of the injury as soon as possible is the best way to help in your recovery and prevention of a future injury. For example, it may be due to over-stretching or an imbalance of muscle use, find this out through your own investigation and advice from a physio if you have one.
  2. Take a holistic approach. Focusing your mind when recovering from injury is as important and in some ways more so than the physical. Apply your mind in terms of belief in your recovery and how fast and good you want it to be. Determine to be stronger and better than before. I can attest to the fact this is more than possible and by applying both mind and body you will also improve your overall performance in training.
  3. Rebuild specifically. This is where an injury can really become an advantage, as once you apply the knowledge of what went wrong and combined mind and body focus, by training this way specifically you will enhance everything you do. As our mind and body are interconnected, specific focus on the injured area will have an accumulative effect on your overall improvement and performance, ensuring you come back far stronger and better than ever before.

If you suffer from any injuries, get the best advice possible from multiple sources and find what works for you. Along your training journey you will gain your own experience on what works best and quickest for you.

As we are all different, results always differ for different people but most of all have faith and determination you will recover and be stronger than you were before.

To your best in health and happiness,

Miranda

5 Benefits of Regular Meditation

Meditation has become more popular in recent years but it can initially prove a difficult practice to take up.

Like any new practice it takes patience and discipline to start to experience the benefits, but just what are these benefits we can experience from a regular meditation practice?

To help you get started and motivated for your practice I’ve outlined the top 5 benefits below that you can gain from a regular meditation practice.

  1. Stress relief; with a regular daily meditation practice, stress levels reduce and with this many health benefits come from reducing the cortisol levels in your body.
  2. Clearer mind; with regular meditation you will start to notice that your mind becomes far clearer as you develop the ability to observe and detach from your thoughts.
  3. Better control of your mind; As through mediation you learn to observe and detatch from your thoughts this leads you to becoming more in control of your mind and actions as you are able to respond rather than react.
  4. More efficient use of time; Through regular meditation you will also become more present and less easily distracted. This leads you to being far more productive and efficient with your time.
  5. Happiness; By becoming more present, efficient, clear, in control of your mind and having less stress you will naturally become happier. This is our innate state when we are more present, it just gets covered by all the old thoughts and habits that have accumulated in the mind. Through regular meditation this all drops off and you’re left with your natural true happy state 🙂

To your best health and happiness 🙏

Joy in Practice

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it makes you happy.

– Paulo Coelho

Finding joy in what we do is essential, our movement practice maybe challenging yet we can always enjoy it too. It’s just about finding what works best for you.

If you’re not sure what type of exercise you really enjoy then experiment first with what is available, whether that be different gym equipment or different classes or sports.

Through trying different things you will find what you really love and then stick with it far more easily because you enjoy it so much.

Pace yourself also, especially in the beginning. It can be easy to overdo it especially when you really enjoy something.

Once you’ve found the way of movement that you find most joyful and maintain a regular practice then just enjoy the way.

It really can be that simple 🙂

Exercise Essentials

Getting started with your training can be the most difficult and challenging time as there is a lot to learn as well as to maintain motivation and get in to good habits.

To help you stay on track I’ve put together some Exercise Essentials videos, of important stretches and ab exercises.

These will help you get started with getting and maintaining correct form so the rest of your training fits together more perfectly.

In training it’s important to get the right combination of cardiovascular, resistance and flexibility training to have the best overall outcome whatever your goal may be. Often some of this can be missing and then the results of lack of endurance or tightness can be felt later on.

If however all the essentials are put in place and maintained then your results will be far more holistic and your goals easier to achieve.

I hope you find the videos useful and more will be added along the way. If you have any specific requests for essential exercise information and instruction please do get in touch. Here’s to your best health 🙏 Miranda
