Working with Change

Change is a natural part of life, in every moment things are always changing. Yet we can often try to keep things the same.

What if instead we were to work with change, allowing it it to happen and going with it instead.

For example when we listen to our bodies, what may have felt good a year ago may not do so now. What If instead of resisting this we work with our bodies and do what feels right in the now, working with it instead.

This is not to say that our work or efforts should not be challenging in some way but that we work with our nature and natural changes, just as nature does itself.

As a tree grows it has to work with the ground it’s in and the changing weather that appears naturally.

Just like this, we too have to work with the way we are and the environment we are in. As a result we will adapt and grow naturally with it.

Constant Evolution

Finding the balance between learning new things and refining what we already know is a process of constant evolution, but one well worth doing.

If we stay on the same thing for too long we may become very good at it but we can slowly become very stagnant and limited in this way.

When doing something new however it’s completely out of our comfort zone and for a while maybe difficult, yet if we enjoy it, worth all the effort put in and progress we see.

I have found the best approach is to have a balance of the two, that way you never become too limited or stagnant yet are always fulfilled in your growth as well as learning new things to constantly evolve.

Disadvantage or Advantage

There are many aspects of our life that may first appear as a disadvantage, yet within every disadvantage can come an advantage.

How we find it often is a part of the journey and how we can turn it in to a success. A disadvantage may for example cause us to have to try a different way or learn a new skill.

An injury is a perfect example of this where we can learn ways to strengthen a previous weakness and then become stronger overall.

It’s also the same with an illness, however tough it can be, there are many lessons and advantages we can learn along the way. Such as being able to have compassion and understanding for those in similar positions and then be able to help them through similar struggles.

Nothing is ever a disadvantage nor advantage, it is simply what we make of it and how we choose to view and use that particular situation.

I have a Monday challenge for you :).. take any situation you have been finding difficult and aim to see the higher purpose of how you can use this to your advantage in the long term.

Cultivating Virtue

Through discipline in practice we cultivate inner virtues, attaining the higher benefits of long sustained practice such as inner strength and peace of mind.

It’s only through daily persistent efforts of our training and meditation that we can attain these benefits, yet once attained they become a part of you as a person and continue to endure.

The particular practice you do does not matter so much, it is more that it fits with you and your purpose, and this may change over time. Having strong values at your core and the ability to persist on your path will allow you to develop these indestructible skills that enable you to have a better way of life. Enabling you to live in a that is more peaceful and filled with insight and onward growth.

Growth and Change

Too often we think things should stay the same. Yet how can we really grow if things dont change?

I have seen this in the gym very often and the same plays out in life. We can be doing something good but not changing it anyway, therefore the results we attained just remain the same.

In order to keep growing we have to continue to change. In the gym this can be as often as every 4-6 weeks.

If we keep doing the same weights for much longer then there is no further improvements from our original gains.

Our bodies need to be challenged to grow, so for this we need to continue to increase, change and adapt.

For example, once we’ve reached our highest weight possible on a particular exercise, we can then change the exercise or method to continually allow the muscles to adapt.

Then we will see and feel growth and change and won’t remain stagnant doing the same thing.

This can also apply in our daily lives, if we stay doing the same thing forever this may feel safe and secure but without any change is there really much growth, and what opportunities may we be missing out on.?

Sometimes we may be fearful of letting go of the old. When this is the case, just try out one new thing at a time and see how it benefits you, then you will soon get used to change and will never want to stay stuck doing the same for so long again.

After a time of getting used to change, we can then come to realise that the only thing to be fearful of is not changing. Change is growth and growth is change, its never anything to be afraid of.

Take that step today and make a change.

For often we don’t lose people or things, we simply outgrow them.
