Freedom of Movement

Having freedom of movement within our training is highly beneficial not only for our bodies but also our minds.

By staying open and having freedom and looseness in our movements like that of a dancer we will begin to notice how this positively affects the way we think and feel.

When our joints are more free and open and our bodies move easier, our minds reflect this and vice versa.

If this sounds like something that you also want or need, here are some ways you can increase the freedom of movement in your training.

  • Stretch Daily
  • Loosening/mobilising exercises
  • Bodyweight training
  • Being adaptable in your training methods
  • Lessen any force and increase softness in your training
  • Adequate rest and recovery

These are some of the ways I have found to be helpful, and as with anything it is always a work in progress.

Below is a short video I created of some loosening exercises you can add to your warm up/cool down routine to help improve your freedom of movement.

Building Up

Building up in our training is very much an individual thing, however there are a few helpful rules you can apply to assist the process.

  1. Gradual progression; take your training step by step and listen to your body, as you gradually add more weight and variation to your exercises.
  2. Pace your training; remember to get adequate rest days, at least 1 per week for recovery and to alternate your training so you’re not overtraining the same muscle groups. Recovery is as important as the work itself.
  3. Stay focused; staying focused on your path of progression is important and to do this you have to keep it interesting. Vary your workouts, keep your favourite music on and keep track of your progress.

Stay focused , stay motivated, build up step by step 💪💫

Honour your progress

It’s important always to honour your progress and all you’ve put it in to your training.

There are several ways you can do this;

  1. Keep a record of your progressions.
  2. Reward yourself when you achieve milestones.
  3. Adapt as progress, enjoying the process.

The journey is where the joy is as well as keeping track of your milestones along the way, this is important, so you can really see how far you’ve come.

Enjoy the process and progress 🙏💛😊

3 Ways to Overcome Plateaus

Hitting plateaus in training is inevitable and a regular occurrence when training consistently and regularly. Even where we are gradually progressing with techniques and rep range these can still occur. However there is always a way to overcome.

Here are 3 steps to help you overcome them.

  1. The first thing is to recognise them and address them as quickly as possible, before becoming stagnant or bored. Then believe in your mind you can and will overcome this plateau, not allowing it to defeat you.
  2. Then break the mould of your training and diversify a little, this is as important for your mind as well as your body as its important to feel free and joyful in your training.
  3. Then listen to your body, feel what’s working and what isn’t and add or takeaway what you need. This also will apply to your diet as that can contribute significantly.

I hope you find these tips helpful and are able to apply where you need. Remember there is always a way. 💫

Most of all enjoy your training, stay happy and free 🙏🙂

There are no limits only plateaus and you must not stay there you must go beyond them

Constant Evolution

Finding the balance between learning new things and refining what we already know is a process of constant evolution, but one well worth doing.

If we stay on the same thing for too long we may become very good at it but we can slowly become very stagnant and limited in this way.

When doing something new however it’s completely out of our comfort zone and for a while maybe difficult, yet if we enjoy it, worth all the effort put in and progress we see.

I have found the best approach is to have a balance of the two, that way you never become too limited or stagnant yet are always fulfilled in your growth as well as learning new things to constantly evolve.

Always enjoying the process.

Happy training 🙏😊💫

Diet & Training

A common challenge with any health and fitness goal is the balance of diet and training.

Both of these are important and equally help each other, no matter what your goals are.

When setting out on a goal it happens often that people are more motivated to eat healthier once training begins.

So first of all get your training routine set and started.

Then fit your diet accordingly. Do your best to eat and train at set times so your body gets used to the pattern and routine helps your metabolism to adjust accordingly.

Use common sense as well as intuition for what your body needs and follow any advice given.

Eating mindfully helps a lot as most of us will eat more than we need. Where this is not the case, eating little and often can be very helpful for resetting your metabolism and building up.

Principles in diet and training are similar and at the same time we are all unique, this is why it is so important to listen to your body as well as follow guidelines.

Most of all, remember to enjoy the journey. 🙏💫

3 Ways of Mindfulness Practice

Practicing Mindfulness allows us to bring awareness and presence to the daily activities and make the daily things we do naturally more beautiful and enriching.

The main practices I have learnt and practice are;

  1. Mindful eating; being completely present whilst preparing and eating food. Offering gratitude and being mindful about all the effort that has gone in to the food and where it has come from.
  2. Mindful walking; being completely present with each footstep, feeling each foot as it touches the earth.
  3. Meditation; setting a time daily to focus purely on each in and out breath, allowing the breath to come and go naturally. Affirmations can also be used to help focus the mind.

Practiced Daily these Mindfulness practices are transformative and are the main ones recommended by @plumvillage teachings.

Give them a try and see the difference it can make to your life to experience each moment deeply. 🙏💗

Staying Inspired

We can all hit low points in training and in life, so it’s important that we stay inspired and have things that can help re-inspire us when in need.

There are several key things that can help;

  1. Having a positive peer group, surrounding yourself with positive people who lift you up and encourage you when in need is essential when needing that necessary inspiration. Even if that means joining classes or groups, find a way to meet like minded people.
  2. Setting goals, small ones are as important, as well as larger ones. The bigger goals give us something to aim for, whilst the smaller ones allow us to see our progress along the way.
  3. Change with change, when things become stagnant and uninspiring it can be time to create a change or find a new way. There are many opportunities in life, we just have to step out to find them. If we stay in same lane too long, we may just miss them. Don’t be afraid to diversify, you never know if something new will work for you unless you try.

I hope you find these few tips helpful if you have been struggling with staying inspired in your training or with life in general.

Remember there is always a way, look for it and you will find it. 🙏💛
